Coil Upender (Tipper)

Coils arrive on the truck eye-to-the-sky. Your decoiler wants them eye-to-the-horizon. The RX-CU7 rotates a 14,000 lb coil through 90 degrees on a mechanical platform with a transmission in under a minute, with the operator on a pendant and nobody under the load.

Built for Performance

Ninety degrees, one operator

Set the skidded coil on the platform with a forklift, step back, and operate the pendant control. The mechanical transmission rotates the platform 90 degrees and holds it there until the coil is lifted off by a C-hook or forklift. A 360-degree rotary platform is available for customers with limited floor space.

Built to be stood next to

Dual limit switches stop the rotation at each end of travel, and a disc brake helps hold the platform securely in position. The frame is a full base plate of welded steel. This is the piece of equipment on a coil line that gets the OSHA question, and it is built to answer it.

Options that match your coil

V-cradle attachments keep round coils from rolling, urethane-faced contact surfaces protect painted stock, and forklift pockets in the frame let you move the upender when the line layout changes. Platform size is cut to your largest coil.

Sized for the line

Unit is 14,000 lb. Roll Worx supplies capacities from 10,000 lb
to 30,000 lb for slit coil, master coil, dies, and irregular loads.

Coil Upender (Tipper) Spec Sheet

  • Frequently Asked Questions:

What does a coil upender do?

It rotates a coil 90 degrees between eye-to-the-sky (the way coils ship on a truck) and eye-to-the-horizon (the way a decoiler mandrel takes them). Without one you are tipping coils with a crane and a C-hook, which is slow and the most dangerous move on the floor.

Coil tipper, coil upender, coil tilter: what is the difference?

Same machine, different regional names. Upender and tipper are the common US terms.

Do I need an upender if I have a coil car?

If your coils arrive eye-to-the-sky, yes. The coil car moves a coil horizontally onto the mandrel but does not rotate it.

    What tonnage do I need?

Match your heaviest master coil with margin. Most panel shops are well served by 20,000 to 30,000 lb; slitting and structural shops go higher.
